Renowned actor Donnie Yen and champion cyclist Sarah Lee to cheer for top four-year-olds at BMW HK Derby this Sunday

The BMW Hong Kong Derby, the ultimate prize in the three-race Four-Year-Old Classic Series and a once-in-a-lifetime challenge, will be held this Sunday, 19 March, at Sha Tin Racecourse. Besides watching top-class horses in action, racegoers can enjoy a wealth of on course attractions as well as appearances by Derby Ambassador Donnie Yen and champion cyclist Sarah Lee.

Fans attending the Derby meeting will each receive a brand new BMW Hong Kong Derby cap (photo 1) on admission to Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses before the start of Race 5, while stocks last.

Renowned actor Donnie Yen has been the Derby Ambassador for five consecutive years.  He will once again be cheering on Derby contenders at Sha Tin Racecourse and will join the presentation ceremony.

Hong Kong’s world champion cyclist and London Olympic Games bronze medallist Sarah Lee, who attended an earlier promotional event for the 2017 BMW Hong Kong Derby together with champion jockey Joao Moreira, will join the big day to cheer for Joao and witness the crowing of this year’s four-year-old champion.

The BMW Hong Kong Derby will be run as Race 8.  Dr. Simon S O Ip, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, will officiate at the trophy presentation ceremony. Mr. Kevin Coon, Vice President of BMW Group Importer Office Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan, Mr. Joseph Lau, Managing Director, BMW Concessionaires (HK) Ltd, and Donnie Yen will present souvenirs to the winning connections after the race.

An array of on-course activities is available for racing fans to enjoy, including

  • Culinary delights available at Mezza One, Sha Tin Racecourse
  • A brand new series of Derby themed merchandise featuring the limited edition windbreaker designed by Donnie Yen available for sale
