MAGIC LEGEND (A170)

23/03/2017

The Stewards have interviewed Trainer J Moore and Jockey D Whyte regarding Mr Moore’s application to add a Crossed Nose Band to the gear carried by MAGIC LEGEND, a declared starter in the Duddell Handicap (Race 7, Class 2, 1200 Metres) to be conducted at the Sha Tin race meeting on Sunday, 26 March 2017. MAGIC LEGEND has been successful in its two Hong Kong race starts over 1000 Metres at Sha Tin wearing a Hood and Rubber Bit only.

Mr Moore and Jockey Whyte explained that as MAGIC LEGEND is stepping up in distance, they believe that the addition of a Crossed Nose Band to its gear will assist the horse in settling and preventing it from over-racing. They also believe that the equipment will reduce the horse’s tendency to lay in in its races by assisting the horse in settling.

Mr Moore added that he had applied a Crossed Nose Band to the horse in its recent trackwork, and both he and Jockey Whyte are satisfied that this piece of equipment will assist the horse in racing more tractably over 1200 Metres.

After considering the merits of Mr Moore’s application and, in particular, having regard to the manner in which the horse has laid in its races in Hong Kong, the Stewards have approved the gear change. The horse will therefore carry a Hood, Crossed Nose Band and Rubber Bit in the stated race.
