Al Quoz Sprint - Form Comments

23/03/2017

G1 – 1200m – Turf

1

Amazing Kids

Excellent over Sha Tin's 1000m as he showed again with his G3 victory in January when he finished strongly off a fast pace. He is also accomplished over 1200m as he showed with his close fourth in the 2016 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint. He'll want a quick tempo which he should get here.

2

Medicean Man

He ran fourth in this back in 2014 when it was run over 1000m, and was still fast enough to win a handicap over this distance in January. However he's by far the oldest in this classy line-up and surely will be vulnerable to younger rivals.

3

The Right Man

A smart and consistent French-trained sprinter who made an encouraging start at Meydan when 3 3/4 lengths third to Jungle Cat and other race-hardened rivals over this course and distance this month. He showed late acceleration without being given a hard race.

4

Final Venture

Has thrived over this course and distance, winning two handicaps here this year. Not so good last time when fifth behind Jungle Cat and other rivals he'll meet again here. He did appear to hang right when under pressure that time.

5

Jungle Cat

A very talented sprinter especially when confronted with this course and distance. He just lacked the raw speed of Ertijaal (IRE) over 1000m here in February but, back at this distance, he easily beat Baccarat and 14 others earlier this month. Chance.

6

Ertijaal (IRE)

Has a fabulous Meydan record with five wins and he also finished an excellent second in this (over 1000m) last year. He thrashed smart Jungle Cat and nine others in a G3 (1000m) last month and past evidence suggests that 1200m is no problem for this speed machine.

7

Long On Value

A multiple graded stakes winner in the US, coming relatively late in life to overseas travel. He has competed over notably longer trips than this but is versatile and has also won over shorter. Usually held up so interesting to see how things work for him in this straight 1200m charge.

8

Finsbury Square

This is ambitious as he meets some hardened Meydan sprinters on this first venture outside Europe. On the plus side he is twice a G3 winner and with a good attitude as he showed with a gutsy victory on the Chantilly all-weather recently.

9

Richard's Boy

Placed in multiple graded stakes in the US, including when keeping on well enough in the closing stages to be third in a G3 over 1300m around Santa Anita's bends last December. His supporters will hope he enjoys this straight 1200m surge.

10

Washington DC

Ryan Moore's mount has plenty of classy sprinting form and, despite a long campaign in 2016, still produced a terrific late surge for second in a G1 over 1000m at Chantilly last October. Equally capable at 1200m, and he's run well off a break before.

11

Limato

If this eight-times winner can live up to the ratings that he has earned so often on this first Meydan outing then he has a great chance. Victories include a G1 at Newmarket last July when he thrashed a class-packed field. An uncomplicated ride.

12

Baccarat

Two firsts and a second from three starts are his super course and distance credentials. In January he narrowly beat Jungle Cat but that stablemate and rival finished 2 lengths ahead last time after getting a better trip. Shortlist material.
