G1 - 3200m – Turf

Who Shot Thebarman

Runner-up in this race in 2015 and finished fourth last year. Worked home fairly when 9.1 lengths 4th to Jameka in G1 BMW (2400m - heavy) at Rosehill on 25 March. Winner at this distance and capable all conditions.

Libran 

Not suited by track conditions when 13.5 lengths 6th to Jameka in G1 BMW (2400m - heavy) at Rosehill on 25 March. Beaten 1.3 lengths when runner-up to Gallante on soft ground in this race last year.

Almoonqith

Made late ground when 4.25 lengths 7th to Tally in Listed Mornington Cup (2400m - good) at Mornington on 25 March. Ran well when 6th in last year’s Melbourne Cup at this distance and will appreciate dropping in weight here. Handles some give in ground but best on drier ground.

Tally

Raced handy and was sound in winning Listed Mornington Cup (2400m - good), by a nose from Vengeur Masque,  at Mornington on 25 March. Lightly raced and improving stayer capable on good and soft ground (untried on heavy).

Assign

Improved sharply at second run this year when 0.8 lengths winner from Astronomos in G3 Sellwood Stakes (2000m - heavy) at Rosehill on 25 March. Failed in last year’s Melbourne Cup at only run this distance. Capable all conditions.

Chance To Dance

Finished well when 2.8 lengths 4th to Annus Mirabilis in G2 Adelaide Cup (3200m - good) at Morphettville on 13 March. Racing consistently well and performs all track conditions.

Big Duke

Won four of past five starts and looks well weighted after impressive 2 lengths win from Aloft in G2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m - heavy) at Randwick last Saturday. Untried at distance but should handle it and has won on good, soft and heavy ground.

Annus Mirabilis

Led throughout in impressive 1.3 lengths win from Double Bluff in G2 Adelaide Cup (3200m - good) at Morphettville on 13 March. Then settled back and failed to threaten when 11.2 lengths last of 13 behind Tally in Listed Mornington Cup (2400m - good) on 25 March. Last effort out of character with usual consistent form.

Mister Impatience

Twice a winner at this distance and can improve on 10.9 lengths 12th to Chenille in G1 Auckland Cup (3200m - yielding) at Ellerslie on 16 March.

Penglai Pavilion

Charlie Appleby trained gelding having first run in Australia. Won Newmarket (UK) 3600m Handicap on good ground last September before 9 lengths 11th to Vazirabad in G1 Prix Royal Oak (3100m - good to soft) at Saint Cloud on 23 October last year. Best form on dry tracks.

Kinema

Struggled on heavy ground when 10.1 lengths 5th to Big Duke in G2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) at Randwick last Saturday. Flemington 2800m winner last November and expect better on good to just soft ground.

Pentathlon

Failed to handle conditions when 13.3 lengths 6th to Big Duke in G2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m - heavy) at Randwick last Saturday. Midfield finishes in Auckland Cup and Melbourne Cup at past two 3200m runs. Prefer on dry track.

Vengeur Masque

Led and held on well when nose 2nd to Tally in Listed Mornington Cup (2400m - good) on 25 March. Lightly raced and good staying prospect who should handle rise in distance and capable on good and soft ground.

Polarisation

Second runner from Appleby Godolphin team. Not raced since September when 4.5 lengths 4th to Wall Of Fire in Doncaster (UK) 2920m Handicap on good ground. Proven at the distance and capable on good and soft ground.
