G1 - 1600m – Turf

1

Al Wukair

Unbeaten in three starts, most significantly when coming from last place with relentless acceleration to win over 1400m at Maisons-Laffitte last month, that significant G3 often a French stepping-stone towards a Guineas attempt. Already proven at 1600m, and a major player.

2

Barney Roy

Looked unlikely to peg back Dream Castle - who had grabbed a significant advantage on the rails - but his relentless late surge saw him win that G3 trial for this event over 1400m at Newbury with some ease. No stamina worries, and he demands respect.

3

Churchill

A gorgeous looking colt who closed down his two-year-old career with two supremely stylish G1 wins over 1400m, both times giving the impression that he could have won by much further than he actually did. This extra distance should benefit and, despite no 2017 prep race, he is widely regarded as the most likely winner.

4

Dream Castle

Well supported to win a significant trial for this, a 1400m G3 at Newbury last month, and looked set to win after strolling to the front. But he may have got lonely racing by himself and was ultimately mowed down by Barney Roy. He remains full of potential.

5

Eminent

This strong son of Frankel earned plenty of praise when winning the most significant Newmarket trial for this Classic last month. Uncomplicated, he stayed on strongly to win that G3 over this 1600m distance, going away at the finish and denting some tall reputations behind him.

6

Lancaster Bomber

Despite only one career victory he has some impressive G1 form, including his 1 1/4L second to Churchill in a 1400m Newmarket G1 last October. He tried the dirt for a G2 over 1900m at Meydan in March, finishing strongly after a slow start.

7

Larchmont Lad

Had a rewarding two-year-old season, including a good G3 win over 1400m here so no track worries. He finished 4 1/2L behind Eminent in his G3 trial for this last month but did easily beat the two horses who raced with him towards the far side. The stable have won this with an outsider before.

8

Law And Order

A big heavy horse and his trainer worries that the undulations of this track may not play to his real strengths. However he certainly didn't disgrace himself here last month when third in a strong-looking Listed event over 1800m.

9

Spirit Of Valor

His best career performance came when second in a 1400m G3 at Leopardstown last October. He missed the break when well beaten in a G2 over 1900m on the dirt at Meydan in March, but he certainly isn't the stable's number one here.

10

Top Score

Twice a winner over 1400m at Meydan earlier this year, including at Listed level. However he ran a dismal race on dirt at Meydan on his last start and doesn't look up to Classic-winning level with two stronger Godolphin candidates in this.
