G1 - 1594m – Turf

1

Barney Roy

Only defeat in three starts came when 1L second to Churchill in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket early last month. A terrific performance considering that he didn't have a good trip and didn't appear happy on the track. Tough and talented, this track should suit better.

2

Churchill

This superb specimen has won his last seven starts, continuing to dominate his age group by winning both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas, both G1 Classic events. He did have a better trip in the first of those - at Newmarket - than some of his rivals but still looks hard to beat.

3

Forest Ranger

Official ratings suggest he will struggle here though he gain a shock win in a conditions race on an all-weather surface earlier this year, beating some well-regarded rivals. Back down in trip after failing to stay in a G2 over further last time.

4

Lancaster Bomber

Has finished five times behind his stablemate Churchill though he did get into the money in both the UAE Derby and the 2000 Guineas this year. Good though he is, his main job could be pushing the pace for Churchill.

5

Mr Scaramanga

From a small stable but well placed to win a valuable prize over this distance at Doha in Qatar earlier this year. He is a decent performer but ratings suggest that he has a mountain to climb here.

6

Peace Envoy

His career highlight was when a close third to US sprinting star Lady Aurelia in a G1 over 1200m at Deauville last August. Didn't make a big impact moving up to 1600m in another Deauville G1 last time.

7

Rivet

A G1 winner at two, and he did run third in a hot renewal of the French 2000 Guineas at Deauville this year. Much too free in the French Derby (2100m) last time and better back at this distance but fast ground is not ideal.

8

Thunder Snow

An experienced colt and a 5L winner of a G1 at Saint-Cloud. That was on soft ground but he also won a 1600m G3 on fast ground at Meydan in February. Nothing went right in the Kentucky Derby but was a good second to Churchill at The Curragh last time.
