He won a G2 over 2400m at this meeting last year, the ground being slow that day. He's only raced twice since and wasn't at his best on his only start this season. Considering he likes this track he can't be ignored.

Four times a winner including landing a Listed event over 2000m at Saint-Cloud last September. However his rating suggests that this will be very difficult and there are stamina worries at this distance as well.

Barsanti

The usual Hardwicke victor has won over this trip, and he has twice even though they were only handicaps, at York. He ran an encouraging third on his 2017 return in a Listed event at Goodwood, but on ratings has plenty to find.

Chemical Charge

Generally progressive at this distance and he came close to a G3 Newbury win on his penultimate start, though getting to the front too soon that day. Tried in a visor last time which proved a disaster as he dropped right out.

He'll want a really brisk pace as he has abundant stamina, staying on strongly to win a Listed race over further than this last month. Highly progressive last year, he enjoys a fast racing surface.

Gained a terrific victory in this last year, beating top class Highland Reel in a thrilling finish. He made a winning 2017 return over further in a G2 at York and will be primed for this. He handles fast ground but is best on good or slower.

Has gone under the radar but it shouldn't be forgotten that he was placed in both the English and Irish Derby last year and was also a winner of a G2 at York last August. He didn't run at all badly in a G1 at Epsom last month. Shortlisted.

Has stamina for this trip and further and that came to his aid when he led close home to win a G3 at Newbury in April. Much less good last time at York but the slow ground clearly didn't suit him that day.

My Dream Boat

Produced an amazing performance to win a shorter G1 at Royal Ascot last year, passing subsequent Arc winner Found late on. Hasn't quite reproduced that despite some fine efforts but what would really help here would be soft ground.

Twice a Meydan winner earlier this year including a defeat of top class Postponed in a G2 over a similar trip to this. Capable of much better than he showed at Epsom last time when he looked to hate that idiosyncratic track.

Second Step

He has a bit to find on ratings but with some of the big names missing from this it is worth a try, especially as he's been at the top of his game since moving to this stable two starts back, finishing fast to win a Listed event at Goodwood last time.

Stellar Mass

From a top Irish stable with his wins - at this distance and further - at up to G3 level. No stamina concerns but it is worrying that he's been well beaten in his last three starts.

He has continually failed when tackling G1 company but is very effective at just below the top level. Plenty of good runs last season without quite winning. However he kicked off 2017 with a G3 win over further than this at Chester.

Absent since last August. However he has raced only six times and there is still time for him to build on potential shown earlier last year such as when second to the brilliant Highland Reel in a G1 over 2400m at Ascot last July.
