To celebrate the 20th birthday of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), The Hong Kong Jockey Club will once again stage the Hong Kong Reunification Raceday on the coming Saturday (1 July) at Sha Tin Racecourse. There will be loads of entertainment, including a fabulous variety show as the highlight of the day. “Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Reunification” foldable souvenir fans will be given out as complimentary gifts upon entry to the racecourse (first-come, first-served, while stocks last). Racegoers can enjoy the show, try a selected array of food and beer at a special price of HK$20, and get to meet their favourite sports stars. A variety of activities will also be lined up at Happy Valley Racecourse.
Cantopop and acrobatic performance
A thematic variety show, to be held at 12:10pm in the Parade Ring, will include the first screening of the “Racing Goes On”, which recaptures the memories of racing and non-racing moments, a medley of classic Cantopop songs performed by the Hong Kong Police Silver Band, as well as a world-class performance of “Diabolo Spinning” by the award-winning Beijing Acrobatic Troupe.
Interactions with sports stars and a chance to win prizes
A number of elite athletes from the Guangdong Province and Hong Kong will also be present on the raceday, including: 2004 Olympic Gold Medallist in the Men’s 10-meter Platform Diving Hu Jia; 2004 FIE Grand Prix Foil Tournament Gold Medallist in Men’s Individual Fencing Dong Zhaozhi; 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist in Gymnastics Artistic Team Women Li Shanshan; 2015&2017 WLBS World Women’s Champion Ng On-yee; 2016 Bronze Medallist in Table Tennis of Men’s World Cup Wong Chun-ting; Team Hong Kong Swimmer Stephanie Au Hoi-shun; Hong Kong High Jump Athlete and Women’s Record Holder Cecilia Yeung Man-wai; Men's Individual Foil Gold Medallist at the 2016 Asian Fencing Championships Cheung Ka-long; and, Coach of the Eastern Long Lions Football Team Chan Yuen-ting. Some of them will also join racegoers in interactive activities, such as prize-winning quizzes where food coupons will be given away.
Special promotion - HK$20 to enjoy a selected array of food and beer
Racegoers can also enjoy a selected array of culinary delights such as curry beef brisket, jumbo hot dogs, yakitori chicken legs, as well as draft beer, at a promotional price of HK$20. These items are normally priced from HK$28 to $58. Moreover, numerous “Old Hong Kong Favourites” dishes will also be offered at the racecourse restaurants and boxes.
VR Games and instant print photo corners
A variety of on-course activities will also be featured, such as virtual reality (VR) game booths for racegoers to experience the excitement of racing, and instant print photo corners to capture the festive moment.
