Jockey Clubˇ¦s Riding High Together Festival promotes intergenerational harmony this Easter

This Easter promises to be a fun-filled one at Sha Tin Racecourse and Penfold Park, which are transformed into the venues of the Hong Kong Jockey Clubˇ¦s Riding High Together Festival. Through this event, the Club connects with the community, instils in them a positive ˇ§can-doˇ¨ spirit, and promotes intergenerational harmony. Around 150,000 residents have attended the Festival over the past four years.

With the theme ˇ§Letˇ¦s have fun across generationsˇ¨, the Festival this year runs from Good Friday, 19 April, to Easter Sunday, 21 April and will feature over 70 ˇ§edutainmentˇ¨ activities and games for young and senior members of the family. Tickets will be available on Monday, 25 March.

Among its many attractions will be horse encounters, youth football competitions, DIY workshops, Easter-themed and family-friendly games, an attempt to break the Guinness World Record and live performances. These multi-dimensional activities, arranged around five sub-themes of Horse Encounters, Inspiration & Fun, Letˇ¦s Be Active, Snap & Share, and Live Performances, are designed to encourage visitors of all ages to learn and expand their creative horizons.

This season also marks the 40th anniversary of Sha Tin Racecourse. Visitors can take a trip down memory lane, or view a miniature replica of Sha Tin Racecourseˇ¦s Parade Ring, while reminiscing over the racecourseˇ¦s glorious history.

World record attempt

An attempt to set a new world record for Hong Kong has been the highlight of the Festival. Four new world records were set by 4,000 Hong Kong residents in the past. This year, around 1,000 participants from NGOs, primary and secondary schools will join forces to set another Guinness World Record for ˇ§The Largest Origami Lessonˇ¨ under the guidance of renowned local origami artist Kade Chan.

STEAM workshops for continuous development

The ˇ§DIY Togetherˇ¨ zone offers a range of workshops at which children and adolescents aged 15 or below can harness their creativity in making crafts themed around Easter and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). These workshops will encourage collaboration between parents and their children and enhance childrenˇ¦s problem-solving abilities. The new Bubble Discovery zone will offer a magical bubble experience for both kids and adults to enjoy together.

Horse encounters to get up close and personal

Penfold Park will be transformed into an equestrian centre during the Festival, enabling visitors to get up close and personal with horses. The ever-popular ˇ§Horse Encountersˇ¨ zone will feature local equestrian riders demonstrating their show jumping, dressage and cross-country skills. Festival-goers can also see grooming and horse care demonstrations, enjoy pony rides and pose for photos with the Clubˇ¦s adorable Shetland ponies.

Manchester United legend to meet the crowd

In the ˇ§Pursuit of a Football Dreamˇ¨ zone, special guest star, Manchester United legend Andy Cole will make an appearance and interact with visitors. Participants can learn football skills with coaches from the Manchester United Soccer Schools. In addition, the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Delegation together with leaders of JC Youth Football Leadership Scheme will demonstrate their team work, by livening up the atmosphere with an amazing rope skipping performance.

Fostering harmony among families

Games in the ˇ§Family Love and Careˇ¨ zone and ˇ§Easter Funˇ¨ zone are specially designed for family members to play together and enjoy family interaction. New to this year is ˇ§Fun to Move@JCˇ¨ Active Family Experience, which features a series of specially-designed sports activities to create perfect moments for parent-child bonding and interactions.

Live entertainment to engage audiences of all ages

Visitors can enjoy an energetic performance by LEGOS, the team representing Hong Kong winning the 2nd runner-up at the 2017 Cheerleading World Championships and a heart-warming a cappella performance by Kessay Chan, winner of Club-supported Student of The Year Awards in the Performing Artist Category. There will also be performances by Cha Duk Chang Childrenˇ¦s Cantonese Opera Association, sponsored by the Clubˇ¦s Trust. Please visit www.hkjc.com/rht for full details of the Festival.
