Freeway Stakes ¡V Form Comments

1400m ¡V Turf

Adam Barows

Took a pair of 2000m 3yo Listed races in early 2017, but well beaten in the G1 Satsuki Sho (2000m) and G1 Kikuka Sho (3000m) that year. That barren spell extended until this year but he showed improvement with a decent 4th in a 1400m upper-class stakes race at Kyoto in February, and a closing 3rd in another 1400m upper-class stakes race at Chukyo in March.  Races on speed or sits handy.  No track concerns.

All The Go

Won the Listed Marguerite Stakes (1400m) as a 3yo, also ran 5th to Aerolithe in the following G1 NHK Mile Cup. Off-colour since. Returned to winning ways last time when surging from the rear to take a middle-class stakes race over the course and distance under Damian Lane on 4 May. A hold-up runner.

Baris

4 wins from 21 starts between 1400m and 2000m. Won a 1400m middle-class stakes race last March before a smart 2nd in a 1400m upper-class stakes race a month later. Well-beaten in three recent runs, including last of 17 in the G3 Kyoto Kimpai (1600m) in January.  No ground concerns.  Best settled midfield.

Border Of Life

4 wins from 15 starts including one over the distance and three others at a mile.  Made a late run to take a 1600m middle-class stakes race on seasonal debut at Nakayama in January. Only 6th at his first run over 1200m last time out. Best on firm ground.  Generally settles back but is capable of sitting handy.

Destiny Song

4 wins from 29 career starts at 1200m and 1400m.  Most recent win a middle-class stakes race over this course and distance last November but has been unable to make an impact in five runs since. Tactically versatile. Only tested on firm and good.

Estate

All three of her wins have come over this distance, including two at this track. Ran well last start when a fast-finishing 3rd in an upper-class stakes race at the course and distance in February. This is considered her best trip and proven on the track.

Lilac Color

Won three over 1500m to 1800m and has finished top five in all 10 of his career starts. Last year won a mile middle-class stakes race at Nakayama in December. Finished close in all three runs so far this year, including a late closing 5th in an upper-class stakes race over this course and distance on 28 April.  Strong finisher.  All runs on firm and good.

Nanyo Amigo

Very consistent sprinter/miler. Finished inside the top 4 in all seven of his runs in 2018, including 3rd behind G3-winning Mozu Superflare in the 1200m upper-class September Stakes. Returned from a 7-month spell last start with a disappointing 8th in an upper-class stakes race at the course and distance on 28 April. Hold-up runner.  Most runs on firm ground.

Suave Arthur

Won 4 races from 1200m to 2000m from 18 career starts.  Notched 2 wins and 3 placings since shifting to 1200m and 1400m last spring. Rounded out the 2018 season with a win in a 1200m middle-class stakes race at Nakayama in December. Stormed home and just failed to catch the frontrunner when 1L 4th in a 1400m upper-class stakes race at Hanshin on 7 April.  Settles back for a late kick and the long straight at Tokyo is expected to suit him.

Tomiken Kirkas

4 wins over 1200m to 1400m from 30 outings. Won his first appearance on turf when taking a middle-class stakes race over this course and distance last November. Has failed to back up that performance in two subsequent starts but ran a smart 3rd after 3-month layoff in an upper-class stakes race at the course and distance on 28 April.  Races on speed or sits handy.  Tested only on firm over turf.
