Contributions to Ping Wo Fund

The Club advocates responsible gambling, committed to striking a balance between meeting the public’s demand for gambling and keeping the negative impacts on the individual and the community to a minimum. To this end, the Club implements a set of comprehensive Responsible Gambling Policy across its betting operations. On the other hand, the Club pledges ardent support to initiatives that aimed at preventing and alleviating problem gambling. The Club has therefore become the first organisation in Asia to be granted Level 4 certification, the highest accreditation, under the Responsible Gambling Framework awarded by the World Lottery Association.

Being a pioneer in Asia in promoting responsible gambling, the Club in 2001 commissioned a consultant to undertake an independent study to identify preventive measures to tackle the issue of problem gambling. Acknowledging that partnering with community organisations can widen the reach and provide more effective means to help problem gamblers, the Club then allocated funding to the Government to launch a two-year pilot project to provide counselling and treatment services. This initiative eventually led the Government to establish Ping Wo Fund in 2003. The Club has since been the biggest donor of the Fund. By end 2020/2021, the Club’s total contribution will have exceeded HK$451 million.

The major ambits of Ping Wo Fund are to finance:

Research and studies into problems and issues relating to gambling
Public education and other measures to prevent or alleviate problems relating to gambling
Counselling, treatment and other remedial or support services for problem and pathological gamblers and those affected by them
