At declaration time, W Pike was declared as the rider of both BAYVIEW GREYSLEW and ACTUARIAL TALENT. It was established that W Pike had a firm commitment to ride ACTUARIAL TALENT. As such, the Stewards permitted Z Purton to be substituted as the rider of BAYVIEW GREYSLEW. For this declaration error, Trainer T K Ng was fined $2,000. LADY FIRST and ACTUARIAL TALENT were slow to begin. At the 1100 Metres, FANTASTIC TIME was steadied away from the heels of COOL RUNNINGS (B Prebble) which when racing awkwardly shifted in. B Prebble was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. For some distance after this, FANTASTIC TIME raced keenly, causing AURELIAN which was following to be steadied. ACTUARIAL TALENT made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly and became unbalanced. In the middle stages, SHINING DRAGON hung out. At the 600 Metres, ACTUARIAL TALENT, which was racing keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BAYVIEW GREYSLEW. For some distance after straightening, KIMBERLEY had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 250 Metres, FANTASTIC TIME was checked to avoid the heels of ACTUARIAL TALENT (W Pike) which shifted out when not properly clear. W Pike was severely reprimanded and told he would be expected to exercise greater care when shifting ground. AURELIAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AURELIAN after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING AHEAD, BAYVIEW GREYSLEW and ACTUARIAL TALENT were sent for sampling. |
