Gary Moore comes from one of Australia's most prominent racing families and has had a long and storied career, both as a jockey and as a trainer. A son of legendary Australian jockey and top Hong Kong trainer George Moore, he is also the younger brother of seven-time Hong Kong champion trainer John Moore. As a rider, he was a seven-time champion jockey in Hong Kong, and also won the title in France in 1987. His French successes included a win in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Gold River in 1981 and he partnered the crack filly Ravinella to classic victories in the 1988 1,000 Guineas and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches. He began his training career in Sydney in 1998, moving to Macau in 2001 where he won a record eight premierships. A major success came when he prepared Viva Pronto to win the HKG3 Hong Kong Macau Trophy in 2010, just the second Macau horse to win the annual interport race at Sha Tin. He returned to Australia in 2014, with his biggest triumph as a trainer coming with Takedown in the G1 Winterbottom Stakes on 26 November.
