Race:1 (705) D'AGUILAR HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

COUR VALANT shifted out on jumping and bumped heavily with THE LEGEND, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
RISING POWER and WONDERFUL TIGER began only fairly.
From wide barriers, SPICY DOUBLE and ASSOCIATION FANS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, BO DUKE failed to muster speed.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, COUR VALANT and THE LEGEND bumped as a result of THE LEGEND racing tight inside SEA PEARL.
Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, COUR VALANT raced with its head on the side and lay out and consequently was unable to maintain its position inside THE LEGEND after the 1200 Metres. COUR VALANT then continued to lay out and making the turn near the 1000 Metres shifted out, resulting in RISING POWER being inconvenienced.
Near the 450 Metres, BO DUKE raced tight outside ASSOCIATION FANS which improved into tight running outside COUR VALANT.
Rounding the Home Turn, LE PEGASE and WONDERFUL TIGER raced tight.
Passing the 300 Metres, LE PEGASE raced tight between THE LEGEND (Z Purton) and WONDERFUL TIGER which shifted in marginally. Then approaching the 250 Metres, LE PEGASE was crowded between WONDERFUL TIGER which shifted in further after being bumped on the hindquarters by LE PEGASE and THE LEGEND which attempted to improve between LE PEGASE and SEA PEARL which after initially shifting in then drifted back out. After racing tight inside LE PEGASE for some distance, THE LEGEND was steadied approaching the 200 Metres when disappointed for running between SEA PEARL and LE PEGASE. After the race, Z Purton reported that after being disappointed for running, THE LEGEND did not run on, however, the horse’s momentum at this time was stopped and it was difficult for him to ascertain how well THE LEGEND was going to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of THE LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Near the 150 Metres, N Callan (WONDERFUL TIGER) momentarily dropped his right rein.
Passing the 150 Metres, SEA PEARL shifted in and bumped THE SHOW, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
W M Lai (RISING POWER) was spoken to regarding having a number of looks to his outside in the very early stages of the race. He was warned against the practice of looking around in races unnecessarily.
A veterinary inspection of VARA PEARL immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
THE LEGEND, ASSOCIATION FANS and WONDERFUL TIGER were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (706) ELGIN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 2200 m

GIANT TURTLE was withdrawn on 5.6.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind). Before being allowed to race again, GIANT TURTLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SANGRIA was steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of D Whyte (GOLDFIELD), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
SUPER CHIC and MCQUEEN were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (707) LYNDHURST HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

RICHCITY FORTUNE began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in its rider having to correct the horse. This resulted in RICHCITY FORTUNE losing ground and racing back in the field.
CARRY TO WIN and PEACE ON EARTH bumped at the start.
Passing the 1100 Metres, K Teetan (NOBLE DE BOY) adjusted his right foot in the stirrup.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, PEACE ON EARTH was awkwardly placed outside THE CHAMP which shifted out.
Passing the 1000 Metres, OUR HONOUR was checked when crowded for room between WINNING BOY which shifted out marginally when corrected by its rider to prevent causing interference to PEACE ON EARTH and CATCHMEIFYOUCAN which got its head on the side and shifted in away from FANTASTIC FABIO which at this time was shifting in. The Stewards were satisfied on the evidence that FANTASTIC FABIO had not dictated CATCHMEIFYOUCAN in, rather CATCHMEIFYOUCAN, which was racing to the inside of FANTASTIC FABIO, shifted in away from that horse and therefore despite the interference to OUR HONOUR being significant, they were unable to attribute any rider error to this incident and accordingly no further action was taken.
Passing the 600 Metres, YOUNG DREAMER brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. CARRY TO WIN, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
For some distance after the 200 Metres, LETSGOFREE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CARRY TO WIN when endeavouring to improve into tight running between that horse and YOUNG DREAMER. Then over the concluding stages, LETSGOFREE and CARRY TO WIN raced tight.
Passing the 150 Metres, NOBLE DE BOY momentarily raced in restricted room inside YOUNG DREAMER.
Throughout the race, CATCHMEIFYOUCAN travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of OUR HONOUR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, OUR HONOUR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of OUR HONOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong stated that he was instructed to lead on YOUNG DREAMER if possible. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount vigorously for a considerable distance in the early stages to maintain a forward position from the horse’s inside barrier. He said he continued to ride YOUNG DREAMER along after the 1000 Metres and when it appeared as though both WINNING BOY and FANTASTIC FABIO were improving their positions forward of YOUNG DREAMER, he again rode his mount along passing the 900 Metres in an endeavour to prevent those horses from crossing. He said at this time FANTASTIC FABIO was able to establish a margin over YOUNG DREAMER while wide on the track and given that he had had to ride YOUNG DREAMER along for a considerable distance to that point of the race, he was reluctant to keep pressing YOUNG DREAMER to prevent FANTASTIC FABIO from crossing as he felt that this would result in the horse not being able to finish off the race. Having viewed the videos, Apprentice Wong agreed that in retrospect he should have made more of an effort to hold his position inside FANTASTIC FABIO given the tempo of the race, however, during the race itself he felt as though the tempo of the race was quicker than the times indicated. Apprentice Wong was informed that, in the opinion of the Stewards also, he should have made a greater effort than he did to maintain his position to the inside of FANTASTIC FABIO and that he should, wherever circumstances permit, ride his mounts in such a manner so as to fulfil the instructions of the horses’ connections.
A veterinary inspection of RICHCITY FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LETSGOFREE, FANTASTIC FABIO and CARRY TO WIN were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (708) ON LAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

After the race, K C Leung reported that his saddle shifted back in the early stages, placing him at a disadvantage throughout the race.
HK TOURBILLON and PEARLY TREASURE bumped at the start. PEARLY TREASURE was then crowded for room between HK TOURBILLON and A BEAUTIFUL which got its head on the side and shifted out on jumping, despite the efforts of its rider. After this, A BEAUTIFUL was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.
FOX CHEUNGER was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After the 600 Metres, I’M THE CONQUIST was left racing wide and without cover.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, BEAUT BEAUT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY LUCKY.
Passing the 450 Metres, A BEAUTIFUL raced tight inside SURE SUPREME which shifted in marginally.
When questioned regarding the performance of PEACE COMBINATION, Z Purton stated that at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably. He said after obtaining a trailing position behind OCEAN ROAR passing the 600 Metres, he then had to ride his mount along in an endeavour to maintain its position behind that horse and to prevent BEAUT BEAUT from shifting out to his inside. He said at this time PEACE COMBINATION got its head on the side and lay out and, despite riding his mount along, BEAUT BEAUT was able to shift out inside PEACE COMBINATION rounding the Home Turn. He added after this PEACE COMBINATION came under heavy pressure and was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of PEACE COMBINATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BEAUT BEAUT and LUCKY LUCKY were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (709) SHELLEY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

Passing the 200 Metres, HAPPY AND HEALTHY was momentarily crowded for room between ENORMOUS HONOUR (N Callan) which initially shifted in and TEN FLAMES (T H So) which shifted out. Both N Callan and T H So were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances to prevent their mounts from shifting ground.
When questioned regarding the performance of SMART BABY, Z Purton stated that although the race was run at a good tempo, his mount did not make up ground after being required to race at the rear of the field due to its outside barrier. He said he was asked to shift SMART BABY to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight to make its final run and after shifting SMART BABY to the outside of BRING IT ON passing the 400 Metres, SMART BABY quickened only fairly and then finished off the race only one-paced. He added he noted that not many horses in the race were able to make up ground from towards the rear of the field and therefore SMART BABY’s run may not have been as disappointing as it first appeared. A veterinary inspection of SMART BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SICHUAN BOSS, MULTIGOGO and TEN FLAMES were sent for sampling.

Near the 750 Metres, TOP STRIKE commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of DR RACE. After this, TOP STRIKE continued to race ungenerously and had to be checked away from the heels of DR RACE for a considerable distance.
Near the 450 Metres, APPLAUSE was crowded for room inside SPRING WIN which shifted in marginally and DR RACE which was initially taken out by ORIENTAL ELITE (D Whyte) before shifting further after becoming unbalanced due to making contact with ORIENTAL ELITE.
