The
Centenary Vase was first run on 8 December 1984 to celebrate the centenary
of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and has since been competed for annually.
This year, the Centenary Vase, a Group Three
event over 2000m carrying HK$2,300,000 prize money, is programmed
as race 7. Mr T Brian Stevenson, a Steward of the Club, will present
the Trophy to the winning owner. In addition, the owner, trainer and
jockey of the winning horse will each receive a silver dish.
The
Centenary Vase is a fine silver-gilt ewer, 22 inches high and weighing
115 ounces. Made in 1839, it is chased with applied mask foliage and
scroll decoration with, on the sides of the main body, a full relief
of racehorses. The Vase is now on permanent display in the Racing
Museum at Happy Valley.
