Top Sprint Race Unveils the New Racing Season
2001/02 racing season opens on Sunday, 2 September
2001 at Sha Tin Racecourse. The first top sprint race of the season,
HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup will surely be the race of the day. After
the long summer break, horses running for the race are very well prepared
and will not upset the longing racing fans with electrifying performances.
There will also be an opening ceremony which marks the cheerful start
of the new racing season.
Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony will be held at the Public
Enclosure Turf at 12:30 p.m. There will be lion dance performance and
jockeys will parade on the track to greet the racegoers. The Chief Executive
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, will
officially open the racing season by striking a gong. Racing fans can
also strike a series of gongs placed in the Racecourse during the day.
The HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup
This race has been scheduled as Race 5 and will
run at 3:30 p.m. Following the race, the HKSAR Chief Secretary for Administration,
Mr. Donald Tsang will present the Cup and a silver dish to the winning
owner on the turf track.
The HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup is the first Premier
Class handicap held in the new racing season. Horses running for this
1200m handicap will have a rating of more than 84. Winners of the race
in previous seasons, Billion Win, Kingston Treasure and Solid Contact
and top local sprinters Red Pepper, Plenty-Plenty and Cliffhanger, and
newcomer Caracoler will compete for the top notch handicap race.
Collections and Souvenirs in the First Race Day of
the Season
To celebrate for the launch of Triple Trio Quick Pick in the new season,
the Hong Kong Jockey Club has issued a First Day Triple Trio Quick Pick
Ticket for customers who bet on Triple Trio for the first day of race.
